Aligned through their common values and rich service history in the electrical industry, IFE and Lister Electrics had all the markings of a perfect partnership.

The Lister story began in 1956 when Brian Lister started an apprenticeship as an electrical mechanic for H.G. Howe Pty. Ltd. Brian purchased the business in 1978, renaming it, Lister Electrics. Over the past four decades, Lister Electrics has carried out all types of electrical work in both domestic and commercial settings and has a long and revered service history in Launceston.

Peter Brumby acquired Lister Electrics in 2020, with a vision to bring together the experience and expertise of two great companies. Together they continue to provide the highest quality service and electrical solutions across Tasmania.

Our History

In February 2002, Peter Brumby and a partner formed Industrial Fire & Electrical Pty. Ltd. (IFE) and a subsidiary company Industrial Fire & Electrical (Tas.) Pty. Ltd.

From humble beginnings, with three employees operating out of a shed at Peter’s home in Riverside, the business soon expanded and it became clear that a larger premises was needed. IFE then moved into their first office at 85 Frankland Street, Launceston.

In 2008, Peter acquired all interests in both companies and continued to pursue new opportunities in the industry across Tasmania and the mainland. This saw the company expand into Southern Tasmania in 2014, and the acquisition of a Victorian Contractors License in 2017.

In response to continued growth across Tasmania, the Launceston branch moved to the current purpose-built facility at 3/14 Broadland Drive in 2018. Hobart followed in 2019, moving to a larger premises at 31 Derwent Park Road, Moonah. In 2020, a workshop was opened in Wivenhoe to service the North West Coast and in early 2021, small workshops were opened in St Helens, and Lady Barron on Flinders Island.

Perhaps the most significant company milestone, happened in October 2020, when IFE purchased electrical contracting company, Lister Electrics. The companies amalgamated and in January 2021, Lister operations moved to the upgraded facilities at Broadland Drive. Lister Electrics now operate as a department of IFE, and strive to honour the history of the Lister name.
